Rather underwhelming expedition to Elephant & Castle to finally catch Roger Hiorns’s heavily hyped “urban sculptural project”. The concept is genius, the end result a little one note: and so much smaller than I’d expected.
The artist encouraged the growth of an unexpected crystal form within a low-rise council flat just off the New Kent Road. 75,000 litres of copper sulphate solution were pumped in to create a strangely beautiful and somewhat menacing crystalline growth on the walls, floor, ceiling and bath of the abandoned dwelling.
